There’s always another adventure to share—some of Elizabeth Hey’s inspirations have been kayaking the Panama Canal, hang gliding over the Appalachians, and fat-tire bicycling on a frozen Alaskan river. Strolling through Giverny’s lush gardens or the remarkable Heard Museum in Phoenix have also sparked stories. Uncovering gems in the Midwest, her proverbial backyard, gives her great satisfaction too.
When approaching an assignment, Elizabeth collaborates with an editor to deliver a product that will intrigue and inform their target audience. As a freelance writer, editor, and photographer, Elizabeth’s deliverability is reliable. She combines more than 20 years of freelance experience and a previous career at Hallmark Cards in product management/product development.
Elizabeth’s writing career launched with a first-person story in Family Fun magazine about creating a family nature museum. The collection, which is still displayed in her office, showcases all sorts of interesting finds including a shed snake skin and an unearthed, adult snapping turtle shell. Since then, Elizabeth’s travel stories have appeared in national and regional publications and far-reaching blogs.
Most often, her articles focus on group and meeting tourism, cruises, family or adult travel, and weekend getaways. Topics run the gamut—from outdoor soft adventure and culture to luxurious spas and destination stories. (Golf may be in the mix soon because spending time at the driving range is utterly therapeutic!) And as a cookbook junkie, who constantly tweaks recipes, she rarely turns down a restaurant, food, or cooking school story.
